Frank Louis Jones, 84, passed away at his home in Weare on June 10, 2016 following a long illness. Born on December 7, 1931 in Manchester, New Hampshire, Frank was one of seven children and the eldest son of the late Cyrus and Alma Jones, of Bradford NH. And, while Frank spent some time living out-of-state, he always returned home to New Hampshire where he spent most of his life.
Frank was the beloved husband of 64 years of Inge Lesser Jones. Including his loving wife, Frank is survived by five children: three daughters, Karen (Heath) White and her husband Carl, Barbara (Klebbe) Bestwick, Helen Mahoney; two sons, Frank (Eric) Jones and his wife Priscilla, Mark Jones and his wife Sonia; seven grandchildren: Kerstin Manchester, Kelly Wilkinson, Sarah Jones, Katelynd Mahoney, Bethany Jones, Lindsey Dolan and Andrew Jones. Frank is also survived by two sisters: Ruth Quimby and Marjorie Tellor, of Newport NH, and many nephews, nieces and in-law relatives. Frank was pre-deceased by his parents and his siblings: Marie Cummings, Linnie Douillette, Charles Jones and Frederick Jones, and his beloved brother-in-law Helmut Lesser.
Frank was very proud of his service in the United States Army, in which he enlisted in 1949. Frank served as a Military Police Officer in Berlin, Germany during the Occupation and the Berlin Airlift years. It was while on this duty that he met his wife. Frank also had assignments at Ft. Meade, Redstone Arsenal, Ft. Knox and Ft. Myers, prior to his medical discharge in 1957.
An active disabled veteran, Frank was always ready to advocate for the disabled and testified in front of Congress several times on veteran affairs. Frank was a past Commander of the DAV Capital City Chapter #19.
Frank held many positions following his medical discharge. Some of his fondest memories were of the times he worked at the Portsmouth Naval Shipyard, where he was involved in the final outfitting of the USS Thresher, and with Donald D. Snyder Construction, during which time Frank was proudly engaged in the construction of numerous bridges and buildings throughout New Hampshire.
Frank loved and adored his family, most especially his devoted Inge and her German cooking. He enjoyed traveling: local day trips to Vermont with his wife and best friend Sabine, trips to Ft Devens to visit military friends Mike and Jutta Tarin, Disney World with his grandchildren; gardening (especially his dahlias), car races, fishing, and just being a grandfather.
In accordance with Frank's wishes, a private interment service at the New Hampshire State Veteran's Cemetery in Boscawen will be held for immediate family. In lieu of flowers, donations in Frank's name may be made to the New Hampshire Veterans Home (NHVH) Resident Fund at The New Hampshire State Veterans Home 139 Winter Street, Tilton, NH 03276. A memorial honoring Frank's life and humor will be held later in the summer, at the home of his oldest daughter.
