Frederick J. (Fred) Mayhew of Manchester, NH, died unexpectedly at Elliot Hospital due to injuries he sustained from a fall. Fred was 73 years old. He was born September 14, 1952, the son of Frederick C. and Irene (Daly) Mayhew in Houghs Neck, Quincy, MA.
Fred is survived by his two adult children, Frederick J. Mayhew II and his wife, Melanie, of Camp Hill, and Melissa M. (Mayhew)(Hannaford) Kidder and her husband, Adam, of Limington, ME.
Fred was a 1970 graduate of Quincy High School. He married Eveleen Dickerson of Braintree, MA on December 26, 1972, at St. Thomas More Church in Braintree, MA, while on leave from the US Navy. He was a boatswain mate in the US Navy, having served from 1972-1976. He had a tour of duty in Vietnam aboard the USS Vesuvius (’72-’73).
Fred was predeceased by his brother Paul, his mother, Irene and his father, Frederick.
He is survived by his five grandchildren, Henry, Hazel and Hannah Mayhew, of Camp Hill, PA, and Jenna (Hannaford) Grad and her husband, Sam, of Porter, ME, and Devon Hannaford, of Manchester, NH. Fred also has two great-grandchildren, Harleigh and Charlotte Grad; and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Fred is also survived by his siblings, Mary (Mayhew) Burt and her husband, Paul of Plattsburgh, NY; Cathy (Mayhew) (Pendleton) Nash of Quincy, MA; Teresa (Mayhew) Coots of Weymouth, MA/Palm Bay, FL, and Denis Mayhew of Palm Bay, FL.
At the request of the deceased’s children, and honoring their father’s wishes, there will be no mass or service. In recognition of Fred’s service to his country, he will be laid to rest at the New Hampshire Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
