ALEXANDRIA--Frederick C. Platts, 73, passed away on July 7, 2026, at his farm in Alexandria. An Alexandria native, Fred was born in February of 1953 to Wesley and Louise (Pulsifer) Platts. He attended the one-room schoolhouse in town, graduated from Newfound High School and earned a degree from Laconia Voc-Tech in auto-mechanics. After graduating, he chose to work with his family at Weslou Farm, the 4th generation to do so.

Fred married the love of his life, Penny (Swain), recently celebrating 51 years of marriage. They had two children: James Platts and Beth (Platts) Farmer.

Fred and his brother Harold operated their business, Platts Brothers for over 60 years, selling firewood and plowing driveways in the Newfound Area. He was a farmer who took pride in raising livestock, growing crops, making maple syrup and high-quality hay. His lasting gift was raising all the kids in the family to appreciate the gifts that come with life on the farm, the value of strong work ethic and the importance of family. He was a good neighbor and would be the first to offer a hand when someone was in need. He was a steward of the land, and found joy in his life working the fields, tending his animals, and cutting firewood.

Fred served his community as a member of the Budget Committee and a long-time member of the Alexandria Volunteer Fire Department.

Fred is survived by his wife, Penny, children: James Platts and Beth (Jeff) Farmer, grandchildren: Duncan & Mason Farmer, Paisley Davis-Platts and bonus grandchildren: Jillian & Jacob Robie; siblings: Charlotte Barron, Harold Platts & Barbara Platts-Comeau, nieces: Lesley Robie & Lorna Sirois, cousins, many close neighbors & friends.

Graveside service will be held July 18, 2026 at 11:00 A.M., Riverside Cemetery, Fowler River Rd, Alexandria. Celebration of Life immediately following at the Alexandria Town Hall.
