Gail (Kenney) Wood Kent, 85, of Gilford, New Hampshire, passed away on June 2, 2026, after a long battle with dementia.
Born on March 26, 1941, in Somerville, Massachusetts, Gail was an intelligent, determined, energetic woman who loved the outdoors, animals, and doing things her way.
She was the oldest daughter of Elmer and Barbara (Evitts) Kenney and the sister of Norma Jean Pierce of North Reading, Massachusetts, and Beverly Erickson of Houlton, Maine.
Gail graduated from Reading High School, in Massachusetts where she was a cheerleader, a member of the National Honor Society, and graduated with high honors. She went on to pursue a college degree focusing on business at New Hampshire College.
Gail worked as a realtor for many years, a career that she was passionate about.
She was an avid tennis player and took up golf after meeting her husband, Gordon Kent, who passed away in January of this year. Together they divided their time between Gilford, New Hampshire, and Hudson, Florida.
Animals held a special place in Gail's heart. She volunteered with local humane societies and was a supporter of PETA.
Gail is survived by her beloved dog Timber (Toby), daughter, Karin (Wood-Knapik) Cloutier and her husband, Jeffrey Cloutier, of Uxbridge, Massachusetts; her son, Jeffrey Wood and his wife, Heidi Burns Wood, of North Berwick, Maine; her grandchildren, Alyssa (Knapik) Patterson and her husband, Corey; Jayce (Knapik) Deroches and his wife, Ri; Bretton Knapik; and Sumner Wood. She was also blessed with her first great-grandchild, Ellia Patterson, born in November 2025. Gail is also survived by Gordon Kent’s daughters, Justine Johnson and Jacqueline Jewell.
A Celebration of Life will be held on Thursday, June 11, 2026 from 12:00 – 2 p.m. at Cremation Society of NH, 172 King Street, in Boscawen, New Hampshire.
The family would like to express their sincere gratitude to the many caregivers who supported Gail over the last several years. Their kindness, patience, and compassion helped make a difficult journey more manageable for both Gail and her family.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to your local humane society or to PETA.
