George R. Beals

George R. Beals, 72, of Merrimack died in the presence of his beloved family members at his home on July 13, 2007 after a short illness with cancer. Mr. Beals was born on May 25, 1935 in Exeter the son of Richard and Helen (Topham) Beals. He graduated from Sanborn Seminary High School in Kingston. Following graduation he joined the US Navy and served as a Second Class Petty Officer with the YARG-8 Fleet and was stationed in San Francisco, California. Upon return from military service, he continued his education at the Industrial Technical School of Engineering. He ultimately received a degree in Refrigeration and Air-Conditioning while operating his own company and working at Armstrong Cork Company in Braintree, MA. Once again, George returned to school, obtaining an engineering degree from Northeastern University in Boston. He put his vast education to use when he became employed as an engineer at AVCO Corporation, Willimgton, MA. Before retiring in May of 1997, he spent twenty-six years at Anheuser-Busch, in Merrimack where he was a stationary engineer. For many years, he served as a voluntary fireman with the Kingston Fire Department, as well as the Fire Department in Merrimack. He enjoyed sailing, reading and traveling. He was infamous for his wood piles and loved not only chopping the wood and working his land but was also a skilled woodworker. George was a member of The Blue Room, Engineering Club in Boston, MA, the Masons’ Gideon Lodge and the Order of the Eastern Star in Kingston as well as a member of the Grand Lodge of NH. George was a loving husband and best friend to his wife, Janet (Liley) Beals for 48 years. His sense of humor and “Stories” were an all time favorite of all who knew him. Family members include: his wife; Janet Liley Beals; his daughter, Caroline B. Lord, son-in-law, Robert A. Lord, and two grandchildren, Stephanie C. Lord and Brian C. Lord of Tyngsboro, MA; his sister, Jean E. Moore of Merrimack; several nieces, nephews, and grandnieces and grandnephews. A Celebration of Life honoring George, is tentatively planned in the fall. Burial will take place in Greenwood Cemetery in Kingston, NH at a later date.
