George W. Carter

George W. Carter, 94 Concord, N.H. – George W. Carter, 94, of Concord, N.H. died Saturday, Nov. 9, 2002, at Havenwood -Heritage Heights Retirement Community following a long illness. He was the husband of Helen (Craig) Carter with whom he shared 70 years of marriage. Born and raised in Lowell, he was the son of George and Sarah (Greenall) Carter. After graduating Lowell High School, he attended Boston University, Franklin Union Institute and Lowell Technological Institute. As an Industrial Engineer, Mr. Carter was employed by G.T.E. Sylvania Lighting Products as Manager of Long Range Planning, U.S. Rubber Company as Assistant Manager of Planning, Varian Associates as Manager of Manufacturing, and American Woolen Plants as Industrial Engineer. He was a member of several industry consortiums including: The National Society of Professional Engineers, The Rotary Club of Peterborough, NH, The Boston Area Corporate Planners, The North Shore American Society of Corporate Planners, and was President of the Danvers Lions Club. Additionally, he was a Deacon at Union Congregational Church in Peterborough, NH, a Trustee of The Community Church of Francistown, NH, and a member of the First Congregational Church in Concord, NH. Besides his wife, he is survived by a daughter, Sara (Carter) Saplin and her husband, William R. Saplin, of Danvers; three grandchildren, Beth Ann Saplin of Danvers, Kristin Peppler of Hamilton and Geoffrey Saplin of Hamilton; a brother, James O. Carter of Lynnfield; and many great grandchildren, nieces, nephews and cousins. There will be a memorial service on Thursday, November 14 at 11:00 AM at Christ Church in Hamilton, MA. Burial will be private. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Havenwood-Heritage Heights Retirement, Endowmwnt Fund, 33 Christian Avenue, Concord, NH 03301 or to the First Congregational Church, 177 North Main Street, COncord, NH 03301
