George G. Chaperon, 87 passed away peacefully on August 26th at his beloved Narrow Acres Farm. Longtime resident of Chester, George spent his last days with his companion of 20 years Shirley Pike, grandchildren Felicia (Abbotts) Flibotte, Justin Abbotts, close friends Patrick and Jocelyn Grady, along with their families by his side. The noise of his tractors driving around, and some reminiscing in the background could be heard, just the way George loved it to be.
Born in Burlington VT on July 22nd, 1930. The son of (late) Raymond and Louise (Beland) Chaperon. George spent his early years in VT, before moving to Nashua, NH. He later went on to meet, and then marry his wife, Florence (Ermala) Chaperon. Soon after their marriage, he was drafted. George proudly served during the Korean War, in the United States Air Force. Upon his return, the couple welcomed 2 children, Mark and Kim. During those years, George began working for a paper box manufacturing company. The opportunity arose for he and Florence to purchase the company, and so began the family's business, Kimark Specialty Box Company. Over time, George was able to take a small step back, as his children helped to operate the company. Having served the area for over 50 years, Kimark was especially known for it's candy boxes, and their use in local shops.
A great sense of humor from an early age, he had many successful "pranks". He also loved a good joke, and had a few signature sayings, which always brought a good laugh. With a broad chest, George housed a large heart and was eager to lend a helping hand to those around him. He had a strong mindset, and was a man who was determined to make things happen, no matter the challenge. George was most definitely particular about many things, and wasn't shy of letting that be known, his oatmeal especially in his later years.
A collector of anything and everything, George enjoyed the "chase" of finding items the most. Often an unplanned drive, dressed in his denim shirt and jeans, usually with coffee in hand, and co- pilot to keep him company. He sought out his next "had to have" or unique items which one may of questioned at times, why the interest? His life long journey of eclectic collecting, gained him many friendships, memories, and built the one of a kind character of his beloved Narrow Acres farm.
George enjoyed music and playing the guitar, the challenge of bringing dilapidated tractors or trucks back to life, meals with family and friends, road trips, flea markets, the excitement from his great- grandchildren as they discovered "Pepere's toys", McDonalds, and a good Western movie with popcorn. He was a member of many area collectors clubs, and was eager to attend and host such events.
George is survived by his daughter, Kim Abbotts, brother Robert Ashmore, grandchildren Felicia Flibotte, Justin Abbotts, Amy Chaperon, Anne Maurice, and Luke Chaperon. As well as 8 great grandchildren, many extended family, friends, and fellow enthusiasts. He will be missed beyond measure, by all.
George was predeceased by his wife of 31 years, Florence Chaperon, son Mark Chaperon, and sisters Phyllis Benway, and Joyce Marcoux.
A casual open house celebration, honoring George's life will be held on Saturday, September 23rd 2017
1:00pm-4:00pm, at his home.
The family would like to thank the providers and staff of Home Health and Hospice for their support. Together, they were able to fulfill George's wishes of "never going back to that damn hospital, again".
