Dr. George P. Fawaz, 88, of Penacook, died June 1, 2006 at the Merrimack County Nursing Home in Boscawen. He was born in Manchester on February 4, 1918, the son of the late Peter and Zahia (Jawish) Fawaz. He migrated to the country of Lebanon in 1920 and lived there with his grandparents until 1937 when he returned to Manchester. Dr. Fawaz served in the U. S. Air Force in Europe during World War II. He attended St. Anslems College and the University of New Hampshire and graduated from Tufts School of Dental Medicine in 1952. He practiced dentistry in Lebanon, NH and Penacook, NH, retiring in 1999. He was a member of the I.O.F.F. and served as Grand Master and Brigadier General. He was also a 32nd degree Mason and a member of the V.F.W. and American Legion. One of his greatest joys was serving as a psalti in the Eastern Orthodox Church. He enjoyed traveling in the U. S. and Europe and the Middle East, especially Lebanon. He was predeceased by four brothers and one sister, Farida, with whom he made his home. He is survived by one sister Virginia (Ginger) Nazarian of Arizona and many nieces and nephews. A graveside memorial service is scheduled for Wednesday June 7th at 2:00 PM in St. Joseph Cemetery, Bedford. The Cremation Society of New Hampshire is in charge of arrangements.
