Lt Col George L. Howard, USAF (Ret), of Hudson, NH, passed away peacefully on Saturday, September 2, 2006, at the Courville Nursing Home in Nashua, NH, at the age of 90. He was born in Republic City, KS, in 1916 to the late Ivan and Bessie Trimmer Howard. He enlisted in the U. S. Army in 1934 and later was commissioned as a pilot in the U.S. Army Air Forces during WWII with decorated service in the Southwest Pacific Theater. He retired from the U.S. Air Force in 1960 after 24 years combined military service. He then worked for the Federal Aviation Administration at regional offices in Utica, NY, and Burlington, MA, before finally retiring in 1975 as head of the regional office in Kansas City, MO. His wife, Mary Elizabeth (Benway) Howard died in 2001 and George is survived by his sons John E. Howard of Hudson, NH, and James M. Howard of San Diego, CA; his daughter Nina Karen Howard of San Diego, CA; five adored grandchildren: Sean D. OPatry of Ft. Worth, TX; Kelley M. OPatry of San Diego, CA; Megan M. OPatry and Daryn J. OPatry of San Francisco, CA; Courteney H. OPatry of San Diego, CA. He is also survived by his brother Darrel G. Howard of Blue Eye, MO, and two sisters: Eileen M. Dietz of Wichita, KS, and Carol E. MacDonald of Phoenix, AZ. He will be interred with his wife in a private service at Fort Rosecrans National Cemetery, San Diego, CA.
