George Paul
LaPorta
Aug 6, 1960 — Jun 9, 2026
George P. LaPorta, a New Hampshire native, born August 6, 1960, passed away suddenly on June 9, 2026.
He was a man of deep faith and proud of his Italian heritage. He enjoyed cooking and sharing many of his special dishes.
If you knew George, you knew he was a true social butterfly, often spotted at his favorite coffee shop, striking up a conversation with a stranger or cruising around on his beloved Harley-Davidson.
As a teenager, George was drawn to Bluegrass music. He took up the mandolin and purchased his iconic Tom Ellis mandolin right after high school. It would become his most cherished possession. He was a natural, and he never looked back. With family members, they formed a band called Lincoln Mountain Bluegrass and with his outgoing personality, George was the obvious choice for MC of the band. George played the mandolin and sang baritone; his brother, Mark was the lead vocalist on guitar; and his cousin Kurt -who was more like a brother- played both the banjo and dobro. His Dad was even persuaded to play stand up bass. They played the bluegrass festival circuit throughout the area, and with a sound that set them apart, they were soon in high demand. In the 1990s, changes came, new members were added, and 2nd Wind was born. They won competitions and numerous awards throughout New England, even recording a CD, making memories and preserving their musical legacy for years to come.
Above all else, George’s greatest pride was his son, Anthony.
He is survived by; Anthony E. LaPorta, and daughter-in-law Michelle; his brother, Mark, and wife, Karen; his cousin, Kurt, and wife, Carleen; his beloved grandchildren, Lincoln and Hannah, that he loved dearly; several nephews and nieces; extended family members; and dear friends.
He was predeceased by his father, Edward P LaPorta, and his mother, Gladys Berard LaPorta of Hudson, NH.
Though his passing was sudden, it brings comfort to those who loved him that he is at peace. He will be remembered for his love of music, his gift of conversation, his warm spirit and the lives he touched.
There is one more shining star in the sky tonight. We imagine George cruising the open roads of heaven, with a smile on his face, watching over those he loved.
“Perhaps they are not stars in the sky, but rather openings in heaven where our loved ones shine down to let us know they are happy.”
- Eskimo Proverb
