DOVER â George Sanders Niles, Jr. "Sandy" aged 69, died on Friday, April 10, 2015 in Dover-Wentworth-Douglass Hospital, of cancer.
He was born in Norwalk, Conn., on October 19, 1945, son of the late George Sanders Niles and Elizabeth (Meader) Niles.
He was the husband of Cheryl Bucklin, formerly of New Castle, N.H.
Sandy Niles was educated at Nashua High School, class of 1963, and awarded the B.A. degree at the University of New Hampshire Durham, January 1969.
He was a graduate of the Officers Candidate School, U.S. Coastguard and served on active duty from 1969-1972.
In 1972, Sandy and Jeff Lalish started Potters Corner in Northwood, N.H. In 1977, Sandy and Cheryl built Red Horse Hill, their pottery studio in Dover, N.H.
He was a juried member of The League of NH Craftsmen and displayed his pottery at the League of N.H. Craftsmen Fair in Newbury for decades. He served as president of Craft State.
Sandy's other passion was the Piscataqua Hounds. Sandy cared for the hounds and established new territories for them to hunt. Earlier he and Cheryl managed the Wentworth Hunt for many seasons. In later years Sandy worked at Seacoast Media Group.
He leaves his wife Cheryl Bucklin Niles of Dover, sister, Lucy Niles Silva of Northwood, nephews, Paul Silva and his wife Donna, Mont Vernon, N.H. and Joseph Silva, Northwood, N.H., and nieces, Amanda Thacher, and her husband Jeffrey, South Berwick, Maine, and Maria Dzierzek, and her husband,. Kenneth, Topsfield, Mass., and several great nieces and nephews.
The Memorial Service will be Tuesday June 30th at 11:00 a.m. in Friends Cemetery. Across the street from 10 Meaderboro Road, Farmington, N.H.
A luncheon will follow in the Meaderboro Community Church, 10 Meaderboro Road, Farmington.
