George Robert "Bob" Stevens

Col. George Robert “Bob” Stevens, USAF, 87, of Hancock, NH passed away May 18, 2023 at Jaffrey Rehabilitation and Nursing Center in Jaffrey, NH.

Bob was born on June 30, 1935 in Centralia, Illinois, the son of Theodore Harold “Ted” Stevens and Winifred “Winnie” (Pabst) Stevens.

He married the love of his life, Frances “Francie” Bostwick September 1, 1955, in Centralia, IL.

Bob grew up in Centralia, IL where he attended Centralia Township High School (Class of 1953). He earned his BA and LLD degrees at the University of Illinois at Champaign-Urban and his MBA later from that same institution.

Commissioned in the US Air Force, he served in the Judge Advocate General (JAG) corps. He had a long and distinguished career including overseas postings in France and Germany, teaching at the US Air Force Academy, and service in Vietnam, where he was injured and received the Purple Heart, Bronze Star and Republic of Vietnam Gallantry Cross. He served as Chief Appellate Defense Counsel for the USAF and Chief Judge on the USAF First Circuit Court.

Bob retired in 1989 in Virginia, and he and Francie later relocated to Hancock, NH. Bob was active in the English Setter Association of America and continued to pursue his interests in old British cars, various collectibles, and travel.

Bob was preceded in death by sister Helen Lee Stevens, brother Theodore Harold Stevens, Jr., granddaughter Helen Elizabeth Stevens, and niece Diane Marie Stevens.

Bob is survived by his wife Frances, sons Mark (Tracy), Ted (Cindy), grandsons Allan, David (Amber), Michael, and Eric, and great-grandson Rhett.

No formal services will be held at this time.
