Georgette M. Cyr

Georgette M. Cyr (Bernier), beloved wife and mother of four, passed away peacefully at the age of 87 in the presence of friends and family on December 21, 2022 at Nevins Nursing & Rehab Center in Methuen, MA. She had been a resident at The Methuen Village Assisted Living facility since May 8, 2021.

Born on April 10, 1935 in the City of Lawrence MA to Raoul and Alexandria Bernier (Bowvin), Georgette was the only girl of four siblings with two older brothers and one younger. Her parents were of French-Canadian descent and held traditional Christian family values and a strong work ethic. She grew into a capable young woman who learned all the fine points of efficiently managing a household. Known for dependability and trustworthiness, by the age of 15 she would frequently be relied upon by neighborhood families for babysitting. Raised Catholic, she had a strong faith in Jesus that she enthusiastically shared with others during her lifetime. She attended classes at Sacred Heart school.

Georgette also developed a love for music and learned to play the accordion. At 16 She appeared on the Original Amateur Hour television program to compete for a chance at a career in music to be aired on the radio. She would later go on to play electronic keyboards, providing entertainment as a volunteer at various social events and nursing homes.

Georgette married in 1955. She was a dedicated wife and mother who taught by example and joyfully cared for her family often humming, singing, or whistling while tending to a multitude of household routines. Her love for her family far exceeded providing for their physical needs. She was also a friend and would always take the time to listen and engage with them in fun activities as well. She delighted in her children and knew each of them as unique individuals, sharing both their struggles and triumphs. She was skilled in tailoring and alterations and worked out of the house to earn extra income when the kids were young. Over the years as each of her children became independent and household demands gradually diminished, her sewing skills would serve her well as this would eventually become her profession.

In 1983 She began full time employment in Lawrence MA at the Everett Mill Building producing high end men’s suits for Ralph Lauren Polo and later in 1992 for Grieco Brothers, Inc. who acquired the operation. Georgette worked her way up at the factory learning each job on the production line. Her specialty became hand stitching the most detailed and visible features of the suits. Some of the suits she worked on were for fund raisers and celebrity events. She has always been a people person and made many friends from all ethnicities and diverse backgrounds during her 13 years there.

Georgette had been a resident of Salem NH since 1979 and attended Granite United Church where she was actively involved with the church community serving as a volunteer for the Little Scholars Daycare and the Young at Heart program for seniors.

Her life was a gift and the love she shared often came back to her, sometimes in unexpected ways and sometime clearly as a result of her direct involvement and caring for others. She was truly loved by all who knew her.

She will be profoundly missed and is survived by her husband of 67 years, Clifford J. Cyr of Methuen, MA, son Stephen J. Cyr and his wife Jennifer L. Cyr (Justesen) of Nevada City, CA, son Daniel J. Cyr and his wife Sandra C. Cyr (Potter) of Sandown, NH, son Clifford J. Cyr Jr. (pre-deceased), daughter Julie Ann Pomerleau (Cyr) and her husband Gary D. Pomerleau of Rochester, NH, and granddaughters Katherine M. Cyr, Michelle R. Cyr, and Desiree E. Tufts.

A celebration of life will be held in her honor at the Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester on Friday, January 27th 2023 from 2:00PM to 5:00PM.
