Gerard “Fishhawk” Nantel, of Nashua, NH passed away peacefully on October 13, 2024 at the age of 91. Gerry was born on November 6,1932 in Hudson, NH and was the son of Ernest and Lydia (Denault) Nantel.

Mr. Nantel was an avid fisherman, sportsman and a career Union Mason, who proudly earned and held 5 distinct certification ‘Tickets’ within the Union. This enabled him to serve as foreman on many projects over the years, overseeing multiple disciplines such as brick, concrete, concrete block or tile work etc. His responsibilities took him to job sites as far away as upstate NY, Washington DC, and for a number of years, he oversaw various projects at the Seabrook, NH power plant project, Nashua Waste Water facility and was responsible for much of the Tile installation at the Pheasant Lane Mall.

Gerry served honorably in U.S. Army during the Korean War as a paratrooper with the 187th Airborne Regimental Combat Team. Upon his discharge from active duty, he served for an additional three years in the NH Army Reserve, Co. B in Nashua, attaining the rank of Sargent 1st Class (S.F.C.). 

Gerry was actively involved with the BSA Pack and Troop 252 in Hudson as Den Leader and Assistant Scout Master for many years, in addition to serving as the Chief Radio Officer of RECON, Rescue and Emergency Communications of NH.

Additionally, Gerry was a Charter and Life member of the Hudson V.F.W. Post 5791 in Hudson NH; a Life member of the N.R.A. as well as a Life member of the American Mountain Men (AMM) attaining their highest achievement of Hiverano,

He was also a member of the North American Fishing Club and served as a volunteer for over 25 years as an instructor for the NH Fish and Game department, specializing in wilderness survival, map and compass disciplines, and firearm safety. Gerry was also a Life member of the Nashua Fish & Game Club; and served proudly with the Amoskeag Squadron of the United States Power Squadrons.

Gerry is survived by two of his children - a son, Norman Nantel of Hudson, NH; and a daughter, Donna Macdonald of Goffstown along with her two sons Eric and Kyle. Additionally, Gerry has two grandsons, Jacob and Joshua Therrien by a deceased daughter, Danielle.

A memorial service will be held at 2:00 p.m. at the NH Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH on Wednesday, Oct. 23, 2024.
