Ghislain B. Charland, 91, passed away peacefully at his residence in Coos County Nursing Hospital on Monday, October 13, 2025.
He was born in La Patrie, Canada on January 24, 1934. He was a farmer, and then moved to North Stratford, NH in summer of 1959. He lived in lumberjack camps and worked as a lumberjack for many years, staying all week and traveling home on the weekends. He finally moved his family in the summer of 1969 to West Stewartstown, NH.
He was a very hard worker and a man of many talents. He also worked as a heavy diesel mechanic, machine operator for 18-wheeler trucks and skidders. He was always there to give a hand, no matter how busy he was, to family and friends. He was an avid hunter in his younger days and loved to go hunting with his brother-in-laws, Alphé and Lauria Audet, and his friends. Ghislain was also pretty famous, and proud of it, for his huge garden. His way to relax after working long hours at work, giving his vegetables to anyone. In his older years, he loved to do Sudoku, crosswords and play cards with his friend, Denise Carrier.
He was predeceased by his parents and the love of his life Suzelle and never got over her. They were married for 56 years. He would visit her every day, no matter the weather, at the cemetery. He was also predeceased by his sister, Jeaninne (Gilles Vallière), brothers, Yvan (Bernadette), and Gilles (Claudette), as well as many brothers and sister-in-laws.
He is survived by his two children, Ghislaine “Gigi” Harvey (Edward Andruss) and Dominic (Doris Fortier); sister, Solange (Claude Duquette); sister-in-laws, Noëlianne (Gérard Tremblay) and Monique (Roland Audet); grandchildren: Tanika Ackerman, Nicholas (Alexandra), Jessica (Michael), and Michael (Mylène); 6 great grandchildren, and his great friend, Denise Carrier.
A gathering will be held in the downstairs hall at St. Brendan Church in Colebrook, NH beginning at 10:00AM on Friday, October 31, 2025. Followed by a mass at 11:00AM. There will be a burial at the cemetery for immediate family.
In lieu of flowers, expression of sympathy may be made in his memory to the: American Heart Association of Cancer Society.
