Gladys M. (Fish) Churchill, 78, died Thursday, May 12, 2005 at Hanover Terrace Healthcare after a long battle with Alzheimer’s Disease. She was born in Bridgewater Center, Vermont on Feb 5, 1927 to George P. and Ruth H. (Hickory) Fish. She attended school in Bridgewater and worked in the mills in Lebanon and Bridgewater before marrying Ralph A. Churchill of Woodstock in 1945. They lived in Woodstock and had 8 children, 2 of which died in infancy. Her husband died of cancer in 1971. Prior to moving to West Lebanon in 1988 she resided in Cornish and White River Junction. Gladys enjoyed crocheting and crossword puzzles and had a great love of animals. During her 17 years in West Lebanon, Gladys cared for abandoned cats. At one time she supported and cared for more than 30 feral cats. She worked with a Vermont volunteer service to get these animals spayed and neutered. She is survived by her children. 5 daughters; Jean A Hewes of Plainfield, Joan Hilliker of Nashville TN., Bette Churchill-Parker of White River Junction, VT, Judith L. Fuller of West Lebanon, NH, Carol E Churchill of Meriden, NH and a son, James D. Churchill of Windsor, VT. Also two Brothers; Roy Fish of West Lebanon, NH, Vernon Fish of Sherburne, VT and one sister Vera Carpenter of Windsor, VT. Also 18 grandchildren and 19 great-grandchildren plus many nieces and nephews. She was predeceased by her husband Ralph Churchill and three brothers; Alfred, Henry and Harold Fish. Mrs. Churchill will be cremated. A private family burial will take place at Riverside Cemetery in Woodstock, VT at a later date.
