Gordon D. Bennett, 85, of Rochester, NH died suddenly of a heart attack, Thursday , January 31, 2008 at Frisbie Memorial Hospital. Gordon was born July 16, 1922 in Hubbardston, MA son of the late C. Durward and Maude (Bryant) Bennett. He graduated from high school in 1940. He later enlisted in the United States Navy and was stationed in Sanford, ME during WWII. He lived in Lynn, MA and in the early 1980's moved to Rochester. Early in his life Gordon worked as a machinist for G.E. in Lynn, MA; he later worked for Edward Blake Co. in Newton, MA in sales; and prior to retirement he worked as an Engineer for Pratt & Whitney in North Berwick, Me, retiring in 1987. In his spare time he was a member of the Great Bay Radio Association in Dover, NH a non-profit public service organization whose mission is education, service and the advancement of Amateur Radio. Along with the radio he took enjoyment from his stamp and postcard collections. He is survived by 2 daughters Ruth Dorrough of Canandaigua, NY, Ann Laramie of Rochester, NH; 3 grandchildren, and 3 great-grandchildren. He is predeceased by his loving wife of 60 years Alice (Haydock) Bennett and his sister Shirley Coons. There will be no services. However, a Celebration of Life ceremony will be held for friends and family at a later date.
