Grace Harriet (Wickes) Walton, 97, formerly of East Cleveland, Ohio and Richmond Heights, Ohio, died at Hanover Hill Nursing Home in Manchester, NH on July 27, 2004. Grace was born on July 21, 1907, in Cleveland, Ohio, and was the daughter of Hannibal Hamelin Wickes and Mary (Schreiber) Wickes. She was a graduate of Shaw High School in East Cleveland, Ohio, Class of 1925. IN HER LIFE: Grace was never employed outside the home to any great extent, except for a five year period surrounding her wedding, when she was a dental and doctors assistant to two doctors in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She married the late Glenn Worthington Walton on June 23, 1934. They were a devoted couple for 60 years of wonderful Wedden Bliss. One daughter, Mary Lou, their pride and joy, was born June 4, 1937. Grace was a homemaker, a wonderful cook and a great housekeeper. She loved doing things for and with her family and friends, and devoted her life to this end. She enjoyed babysitting her niece and nephew and grandchildren. She would have them in her care sometimes for weeks at a time. She lived life to its fullest until a stroke devastated her in 1994, at the age of 87. Grace was a devout and active member of the First Church of Christ Scientist in Cleveland Heights, Ohio. She served as an elder, deacon, usher, nursery attendant, Sunday school teacher and reading room clerk. Her Church meant everything to her. Grace was cared for by her family for five years in Mary Lou and Neils home, but spent her last few years in a nursing home, when her care became too difficult and demanding for the family to handle. She was predeceased by her husband, Glenn Worthington Walton and her sister, Helen (Wickes) McDermott and also had a baby brother, who died of pneumonia in infancy. Grace will be greatly missed, for she was an intricate part of our lives, but our many memories of her in life will live on forever.
