Guy Giampaolo

Guy Giampaolo, age 88, of Maidstone, Vermont, died peacefully at home in a room filled with the love of family and friends on August 28, 2026. Guy was a survivor of bladder and prostate cancer and had been living with dementia for the past 14 years.

Guy was born on February 28,1938, in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania, to the late Sam Giampaolo and Catherine (DiFransesca) Giampaolo.

Guy entered the Navy at age sixteen, where he fulfilled his dream of serving on a naval destroyer. Little did he know he would be seasick and carry his own bucket for nearly six years! Guy proudly served on the USS Borie and USS Losier.

Guy married his first wife, Irene Trundy, a fellow Navy member. Together they raised three children (Beth, Danny, and Jo) and a foster son (Dicky).

Guy began his career working as a member of the street crew with the Haverhill Gas Company in the 1960's. Decades later he would retire as a crew chief at the Essex County Gas Company.

Guy met his second wife, Gail Tattan, on a baseball diamond in Haverhill, Massachusetts, while coaching a women's softball team. In November 1982, they were married in Newton, New Hampshire, and have been best friends and in love ever since.

Shortly after retiring from the Haverhill Gas Company, Guy and Gail purchased a small camp with an outhouse, a party telephone line, and a shared driveway on Maidstone Lake and found their happy place.

Over the years, Guy helped tear down many of the old camps on the lake, and he built their lake home entirely from repurposed wood.

Guy has loved living on Maidstone Lake in Vermont for more than thirty years. His shed door has been open to many over the years who didn't want to make the 20-mile trek to the nearest hardware store. If you could find it in his shed, (after wiping the dust off), he would graciously let you have it or borrow it.

Guy loved and enjoyed his daughters, nieces, nephews, grandchildren, great and great great-grandchildren spending time at the lake. Whether they were together on the water, in the yard, or in the house, there was always plenty of food, fun and laughter.

Guy leaves his wife of 44 years, Gail Tattan-Giampaolo, daughters Elizabeth Giampaolo-McCabe of Haverhill, Massachusetts, and Jo Giampaolo (Jim Mewkill) of Guildhall, Vermont, daughter in law MaryLou McKinnon (Charles McKinnon) of Derry, New Hampshire and many loved grandchildren, great grandchildren, a great-great grandson, nieces, nephews, and friends.

Guy was predeceased by his son Daniel Giampaolo, foster son Richard Beaudoin, sisters Concetta Harrison and Joanne Contreras and brother Santos Giampaolo.

Undoubtedly, it took a village to uplift both Guy and Gail through years of Guy's courageous medical journey, showcasing the power of love, medical care, and family and community support. A heartfelt thank you to, Dr. Wendy Muello, Dr. Elizabeth Cooley, Dr. Paul Kamins, Dr Stephen Regan, Weeks Medical Center, NVRH Palliative Care Provider Anne Cowles, Hospice Provider Dr. Mary Readdy, Caledonia Hospice Team members including Kristin Freeto, Jennifer Warren, Breanna Barnes, Tina Lucero and the incredible Maidstone Community for their compassion, unwavering support, expertise, and generosity!

In lieu of flowers, please take some precious time during the next two weeks and take a loved one out for dinner or lunch in Guy's memory.
