Halstead Norman "Sam" Colby, Jr., 71, died at his home with his loved ones by his side.

Born in 1936 in Exeter, NH, he moved to Bow where he resided most of his life in the house his dad built.

Sam attended schools, graduating Concord High, Class of 1954 and attended UNH. He retired in 1994 after 38 ½ years working as a professional civil engineer with the State Highway Department.

During his years in Bow, he was a member of the Bow Police Department, as a part-time officer and as a volunteer firefighter. He served as Chairman of the Bow Historical Committee and a member of the Highway Safety Committee.

He was an avid ham radio enthusiast for many years (WA1CBP) and past NH Army Mars Director and Supply Officer. He enjoyed many fishing trips to the North Country and to Canada. After his retirement, he enjoyed watching NASCAR, lacrosse games, working in the woods, and making furniture in his woodshop for his wife's craft business.

He leaves behind his wife of 32 years, Carole (Touchette), a son, Kurt L. Colby of Bow, daughter, Jami J. Mussey , a son CMSgt. Mark J. Colby, (Retired) of Dudley, NC, a son Scott F. Colby, of Dallas, TX, one niece and one nephew, one aunt, several cousins and many friends. Sam was predeceased by his daughter, Kelley.

IN HIS LIFE: In addition, other family members include; a son-in-law, William Mussey, of Bow; a daughter-in-law, Shirley Colby, of Dudley, NC; Scott Colby's special friend, Lisa of Dallas, TX; a granddaughter, Alison R. Colby, of Austin, TX; mother-in-law, Myrelle Touchette, of Concord; and a sister-in-law, Katherine Nutter and husband, Delbert, of Concord. Sam was predeceased by his father, Halstead Sr., mother, Audrey Noyes Colby, a sister, Joan, and his best pal, Ruggles, his dog.

There will be no calling hours and a private committal will be held at a later date.

The Cremation Society of NH is assisting the family with arrangements.
