Harold E. "Bud" Hines Meredith, NH, formerly of Wellesley, MA – Harold Edward Hines, 90, passed away Tuesday, December 16, 2008, at the CRVNA Hospice House. He was born Sept. 17, 1918, in East Boston, MA, to Thomas and Elydia (Stoltz) Hines, Sr. He attended the Brookline Schools in Brookline, MA, until attending Clark Prep School in Hanover, NH. Following graduation from Boston University, Harold "Bud" enlisted in the Marine Corps. He served in the South Pacific during WW II as 2nd Lieutenant leading to the Presidential Unit Citation and five battle stars for campaigns at Tulagi, Guadalcanal, Iwo Jima, Bougainville, and Midway. He rose to the rank of Major before the hostilities ceased in 1945. Upon returning from the war, Bud earned a Masters Degree in Education from his Alma Mater in preparation for a career in the Teacher-Coach field; all at Wellesley, MA. Fall of 1946 Bud started to teach Physical Education and coached sophomore football, basketball and baseball. In 1947 he became the Varsity Ice Hockey Coach and remained so for 22 years. He also served as football trainer for 20 years. In the fall of 1968 he became Director of Physical Education and Athletics for grades 7-12 for the town of Wellesley. He retired in June 1980 and moved to Meredith, NH. In addition to his parents, he was predeceased by his daughter-in-law, Joan C. Hines. His surviving family includes his wife of 64 years, M. Patricia (King); loving father of John R. Hines of South Natick, Richard J. Hines and his wife Darleen of Belmont, NH; loving grandfather of Kim, Lisa, Patty, Erin and Jason, three step-grandchildren, Devon, Kyle and Shelby Reed; eight great grandchildren; brother, Thomas E. Hines, Jr. and his wife, Bev of Windsor, NH, and nieces, nephews. There will be no calling hours. A Memorial Mass will be held at St. Charles Borromeo Church 300 NH Rte. 25, Meredith, NH on Sat. Dec. 20, at 11:00 AM. In lieu of flowers donations may be made to Concord Regional Visiting Nurse's Association Hospice House PO Box 1797, Concord, NH 03302-1797, or Pine Rock Manor 3 Denny Hill Rd., Warner, NH 03278.
