Harold A. ''Smitty'' Smith, 73, of 176 Chance Pond Road, West Franklin died on April 22, 2001 at his home after a long illness. Mr. Smith was born in Franklin, NH of April 9, 1928, the son of Frank H. And Mildred (Hodgdon) Smith. He attended Franklin schools and was active in sports. He had worked at Louis Verza Leather for 20 years and was the plant superintendent at the time they closed in 1970. He worked for Concord Steam Corp. until 1977 and later retired in 1990 from the State of NH as a maintenance technician after 14 years of service. Mr. Smith was a member of the New England Order of Power Engineers. He was also a parishioner of the Christian Congregational Church. His family includes his wife of 50 years, Evelyn (Duff) Smith of Franklin; two sons, Danny H. Smith of New London and Scott M. Smith of Franklin; two brothers, Frank H. Smith of Columbus, NJ and Richard Smith of Boscawen; and one sister Mary McDermott of Tilton. He was predeceased by a son David M. Smith in 1995. He also leaves behind a very dedicated and faithful friend, Norman Bushman. There will be no calling hours. A private Memorial Service will be held at a later date by the family.
