Harris C. Pushee, 83, died Thursday, May 16 at Dartmouth Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a brief illness. He was born July 17, 1918, a son of Harris A. and Inez (Clark) Pushee. A life-long resident of Lyme, he graduated from Hanover High School in 1937. Harris worked at the Dartmouth National Bank before and after serving in the US Army during World War II, and was Lyme's Postmaster from 1954 until his retirement in 1978. On May 29, 1942, he married Louise Amy Miles. He is survived by his wife; three sons and daughters-in-law -- Ronald and Linda of Galway, NY, David and Joan of Amherst, NH, and Wayne and Faith of Lyme; a brother -- Albert of Lyme; two sisters -- Pauline Pushee of Woodsville, NH and Ellen Jordan of North Stratford, NH; 9 grandchildren Ruth, Kimo, Martha, Emma, Ian, Kevin, Matthew, Luke, and Ben; 3 great-grandchildren Meghan, Nathaniel, HollyAnn; and several cousins, nephews, and nieces. In 1947, with the help of his father, he cut trees, had them sawed into lumber, and built his home on Route 10 in Lyme. He also maintained and enjoyed a cottage on Post Pond in Lyme. He was a volunteer fireman and assistant fire chief in Lyme for many years. He was a member and past master of the Morning Star Grange for over 60 years. He served on the committee for the Lyme Boy Scout Troop in the 1950's and 60's and was proud of 4 grandsons who attained the Eagle rank. For many years he spent the winter months in Frostproof, Florida where he was active in the Frostproof Tourist Club and enjoyed shuffleboard, bingo, card games, and square dancing. A memorial reception is will be held on June 1 between 1:30 and 3:30 at the Lyme Congregational Church Hall. A family memorial service will be held in early June with burial at the Veterans cemetery in Boscawen, NH. Memorial contributions may be made to the Lyme FAST Squad or to the Lyme Congregational Church.
