Harry Merrill Bailey, longtime resident of Hampton, New Hampshire, died peacefully on January 12, 2018, at Kaplan Family Hospice House in Danvers, Massachusetts. He was 78.
Harry grew up in Marblehead, Massachusetts and graduated from Marblehead High School and the University of Massachusetts - Amherst. After college, Harry served in the army in Germany. Following his service, he remained in Germany for several years, soaking up the language, music and culture, all of which he loved. Upon his return to the United States, Harry worked for many years at Osram Sylvania in New Hampshire.
Harry's greatest passion was music, from the classical music he grew up playing in various orchestras to the Dixieland he played at Your Father's Mustache and the Red Garter. He was also a talented painter, silversmith and woodworker and these talents were best shown in the banjos he handcrafted and refurbished.
Harry will be remembered as a devoted uncle, gifted musician, cat lover and flea market enthusiast. He is survived by his sister Wendy Bailey Munro and brother in law James Stevenson Munro, Jr., of Nahant, Massachusetts, as well as his nieces Tess Bauta and Angela Munro, also of Nahant, and five grand nieces and nephews. Services will be private.
