Helen S. Claflin of Keene, NH, died of a lung condition Saturday night at Harborside Healthcare-Westwood. She was 86. Mrs. Claflin was born and raised in Maynard, MA. She and her husband of 21 years, Charles E. Claflin, lived in Acton, MA for nine years and in Saxtons River, VT, for seven years before moving to West Chesterfield, NH in 1953. Mrs. Claflin worked as a waitress and cook in the Brattleboro, VT and Keene, NH, areas for more than 30 years, 25 of which were spent with Howard Johnson's in Brattleboro. While waitressing at King's Restaurant, Mrs. Claflin was voted ''Waitress of the Year'' for the Brattleboro area. From 1983 to 1988 she lived in El Paso, TX, with her brother before moving back to Keene. Mrs. Claflin's hobbies were cooking, reading, and crossword puzzles. She was known by her family and fiends for her generosity, kindness. and hard work. Mrs. Claflin leaves two sons, Robert C. Claflin of West Chesterfield and Kernan M Claflin of Hancock, three grandchildren Jennifer, Robert, and Danner and a niece Carol Ann Hodson. In lieu of flowers, relatives and friends are kindly invited to attend a celebration ion of her which will be held this spring.
