Helen Maruskanic, 90, of Granite Ledges Assisted Living in Concord, died February 3, 2004 at Concord Hospital following a period of declining health. Mrs. Maruskanic was born on September 16, 1913 in Lorraine, Ohio the daughter of the late Joseph and Mary (Koval) Lasky. She was raised in Europe and spent her childhood in Czechoslovakia. She moved to New York at the age of 17 and remained there through early adulthood. She was a parishioner of St. Mary's Byzantine Catholic Church and was a member of the Ladies Auxiliary. She often cooked and baked for their fundraisers and even ran the bingo games at their charity events. She was an avid gardener and took great pride in her roses and flowers. Helen was known to have the best garden in Brooklyn. She and her late husband, John, retired to New Jersey. She remained in New Jersey for several years after the death of her husband and finally relocated to Granite Ledges in Concord to be close to her daughter and family. Family members include; one son, Thomas Maruskanic of Nazareth, PA; one daughter, Caroline Pellock and her husband, Charles of Bow; four grandchildren, Janeen Maruskanic, John Maruskanic, Alaka Pellock and Chandler Pellock; one nephew, one niece; three great nephews and six great grandnieces. Besides her husband she was predeceased by two brothers, Joseph Lasky and Michael Lasky. A Memorial Service will be held at Granite Ledges at a later date.
