Henry John Evans

Henry John Evans, "Hank", of Durham NH passed away peacefully on Thursday, July 1, 2021. A private celebration of Henry's life is planned for a later date.
Henry was born on May 12, 1934, in Boston MA, the son of Grace (Powell) Evans and Henry John Evans of Belmont MA. Henry grew up in Belmont and Malden MA, graduating in 1952 from Malden Catholic High School. After high school, he went on to study finance and business management at Northeastern University, graduating in 1957. It was also during this time that he met the love of his life, Jane Marie Green of Medford MA.
Henry and Jane were married on June 21, 1958 at St. Raphael's Church in Medford MA. After their marriage, Henry served two years of military service for the U.S. Army at Ft. Hood, Killeen, TX, then worked for both John Hancock and The Travelers insurance companies bringing Henry and Jane back to New England. He spent the majority of his career working for Honeywell/Bull Information Systems in Billerica MA and retired from that firm.
Henry said the two greatest accomplishments of his life were marrying Jane and raising his three children: Kathy, Mark, and Ken. While raising his family in Medfield MA and Harvard MA, he was fortunate to meet lifelong friends that he cherished.
After retiring from Honeywell/Bull, Henry and Jane moved from Harvard MA to Eliot ME. They lived in Eliot until moving to RiverWoods Durham in early 2020, a non-profit continuing care retirement community. Henry's family is profoundly thankful for the care and support Henry received from the RiverWoods community.
Henry was a lifelong learner, an avid financial market watcher, and a Boston sports team fanatic. He dabbled in amateur photography and had an eye for composition particularly in nature and architectural settings. He coached his sons’ Little League teams and took pride in ensuring all team members spent time on the field, regardless of their abilities. Some of Henry's fondest memories were of the times he spent at the beach with his children and ultimately his grandchildren. Many beaches were special to Henry but he held a special place in his heart for years spent at Goose Rocks Beach in ME.
Henry is survived by his wife, Jane (Green) Evans. of Durham NH and his three children, Kathy (Evans) DellaPenna (Paul Catineau) of Fremont NH; Mark Evans (Alison Spalding Evans) of
Littleton CO; and Ken Evans (Mary Weiser-Evans) of Evergreen CO.
He is also survived by his grandchildren Ryan DellaPenna of Newmarket NH, Matthew Evans of Richmond IN, Andrew Evans of Lakewood CO, Shaye Evans and Kaelyn Evans of Evergreen CO; his brother-in-law Norman LaBossiere of Wilmington MA; his nieces Susanne (LaBossiere) Evans (Russell) of Meredith NH, Jennifer (LaBossiere) Obremski (John) of Melrose MA, and Karen (LaBossiere) Moore (Tom) of Derry NH; and nephew Robert LaBossiere (Bonnie) of Salem NH.
Henry is predeceased by his sister-in-law Judith (Green) LaBossiere.
Memorial gifts in Henry's memory may be donated to the Employee Appreciation Fund at RiverWoods Durham (14 Stone Quarry Drive, Durham NH 03824 ATTN: Natalee D’Antoni) or the Portsmouth Public Library where Henry spent many hours. The Library’s address is 175 Parrott Street, Portsmouth, NH 03801.
