Henry was born in Springfield, Vermont, the son of Henry and Dorothy Farnsworth. He was the beloved husband of Eldora “Dora” Farnsworth of Lancaster, New Hampshire. They were married on February 18, 1954, in Charlestown, New Hampshire, and recently celebrated 72 years of marriage together.

Henry attended school in Gloucester, Massachusetts, and proudly served four years in the United States Army. He rarely spoke about his military service, but those who knew him may not have known that he was a paratrooper and a marksman. During his service, he was stationed in Alaska and at Camp Lejeune, North Carolina. He was also a licensed bulldozer operator.

After marrying Dora in 1954, Henry moved with her to Gloucester, Massachusetts, where he began working on fishing boats. The couple later relocated to Plainfield, New Hampshire, where they continued the Farnsworth family tradition of dairy farming. Henry worked tirelessly to provide for his family, often traveling back to Boston to work as a commercial fisherman while Dora and their children cared for the farm.

Henry began as a first mate and eventually became captain of a fishing vessel, spending many years fishing the Grand Banks of the Atlantic Ocean. In 1973, Henry and Dora moved to Lancaster, New Hampshire, where they settled their family on the South Lancaster Road farm. Once again, Henry balanced life on the farm with his work as a commercial fisherman, traveling to Boston while Dora and the children continued to run the dairy farm.

He finally retired from commercial fishing in the early 1980s and later retired from farming in 1999. Henry and Dora built their retirement home nearby, where they enjoyed their later years together.

Henry was a hardworking man who took great pride in providing for his family. He loved his animals and rarely was without a dog by his side. He was a man of few words at times, but his dedication, strength, work ethic, and love for his family spoke volumes. His life was one of hard work, adventure, family, and devotion to the woman he shared 72 years of marriage with.

Henry was predeceased by his parents; five of his siblings; his son, John; his son, Henry; and his daughter, Judith.

He is survived by his devoted wife, Eldora “Dora” Farnsworth; his daughters, Sandra Farnsworth of New Hampshire, Dian Kenison of Lancaster, and Linda White of Littleton; nine grandchildren; 18 great-grandchildren; 12 great-great-grandchildren; his sister, Beverly Joyce Britton of Florida; and many nieces, nephews, cousins, and extended family members who will miss him dearly.

There will be no public service. A private celebration of Henry’s life will be held at a later date with family and loved ones.

Henry lived a long and extraordinary life, and his memory will live on through the many generations of family he leaves behind.
