Emblem

It is with sadness that we announce the passing of Henry Friedrich, Jr. of Candia, NH on October 28, 2023 at the age of 93. Henry was born in New Boston on January 15, 1930 to the late Henry (Sr.) and Florence (Blanchard) Friedrich. He married the love of his life, Alma Trow, on December 27, 1951 and moved to Amarillo, TX where he served in the US Air Force as an aircraft mechanic instructor, returning to NH in 1954.

He worked for R.C. Hazelton in Manchester for 32 years as a mechanic/welder-fabricator. He served as a volunteer firefighter and later Fire Chief for the Town of Candia. Henry busied himself in retirement making handcrafted baskets, tending his vegetable and flower gardens, and raising the most amazing crop of blueberries.

After retiring, while wintering in Zephyrhills, FL, he put his vast knowledge and experience to work volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. He loved working with wood, stone and steel to create beautiful and functional pieces of art and equipment. He also restored their 250-year-old Cape house and barn. He rarely found a skill he could not master.

He leaves behind his loving wife of 71 years, two sons and their wives: Henry III (Evelyn) of Pembroke and Thomas (Marlene) of Loudon; two daughters and their husbands: Marlena (Lee) Keyser of Andover and Billie (Mark) Pepper of Candia; 4 grandchildren and 2 great-grandchildren, as well as several nieces and nephews. He was pre-deceased by his daughter Vickie (Bill) Runels, and his 6 sisters: Billy Proctor, Roberta Cram, Josie Miller, Alice Goodwin, Sylvia Hook and Nan Whipple.

The family thanks the compassionate caregivers at Rochester Manor for the wonderful care they gave him in his final months. Their dedication was a blessing for our whole family.
