Herbert Goss, 79, of 251 Stark Highway North, Dunbarton, NH died at his home September 2, 2002. He was born on August 3, 1923, in Methuen, Ma., and was the son of the late Harley and Ella (Davidson) Goss and had been a resident of Dunbarton. Herbert was a WWII Navy Veteran. He served on the submarine USS Skate that carried out a successful raid on Toykiyo Bay early in the war. The exploits of the Skate were recorded in the book ''Sink Them All''. The Skate was destroyed at sea by the US Navy rather then be returned to the moth ball fleets. Robert held memberships with the Veteran of Foreign Wars Post 01631, American Legion Post 39 of Contoocook, The New Hampshire Veterans' Association, The Silent Service during WW II and he received decorations and insignas from the following; Navy Unit Citation 1 Star; Philippines Liberations 1 Star; Victory Medal 1 Star and Submarine Combat Pine 3 Stars. Mr. Goss had a fond memory of his dad as conductor of the Boston/Maine Railroad in Woodsville, NH. Herbert was an avid fisherman, hunter and gardener. He loved horses. Family members include his wife of 47 years, Jean (Crowley) Goss of Dunbarton, a daughter, Mrs. Bruce (Lynne) Yeaton of Loudon, NH, several nieces, nephews and cousins.
