Herman "Herm" C. Wiegelman

Herman Charles Wiegelman, 96 of Hillsborough, NH, passed away peacefully at home on February 16, 2025, just a few days shy of his 97th birthday. He was born in Chicago, IL, on February 20, 1928, and was the beloved husband of the late Yvonne Wiegelman, with whom he shared 69 years of marriage before her passing in 2020.

Herman was a man of deep compassion, intelligence and dedication. He served as a Military Police Officer in the U.S Army from 1947 to 1950. He was a member of Mensa. Throughout his life, he worked tirelessly for his community. Herm and Yvonne were presented with the Community Builders Award from the free Masons and the Chamber of Commerce Citizens of the Year Award. Herm served as the Water Commissioner for the Town of Hillsborough and was Chairman of the Hillsborough Planning Board. He was a proud member of the Lion's Club and Hillsborough Pride. In recognition of his work with the American Cancer Society, Herman was honored with the prestigious Order of the Sword Award, the highest honor the society bestows.

In 1977, Herman and Yvonne moved from Palatine, IL, to Windham, NH, where they lived for 19 years, joining the Bella Vista Beach Club and forming many lasting friendships. In 1996 they moved to their dream retirement home on Loon Pond in Hillsborough, NH, where they continued to build cherished memories together. Fishing out on the lake with his boys was one of his most cherished activities. One of his proudest achievements was starting a family business with sons, Eric and Karl. PHYTEK Industries (an acronym for Patty, Herman, Yvonne, Terry, Eric and Karl) of Bow, NH, remains a strong and lucrative business to this day.

Herman had a heart full of love for his family and was a dedicated father to his five children: Herman, Jr. (Buddy) and his wife, Amy, of Fox River Grove, IL; Lynne Charles and her late husband, Pete, of Villages of Lakewood, IL; Wendy Simeon and her late husband, Scott, of Wappingers Falls, NY; Eric and his wife, Patty, of Hooksett, NH; and, Karl and his wife, Terry, of Dunbarton, NH.

A brilliant man, Herman was always eager to listen and offer sage advice, He adored his children and especially loved the playful teasing from his boys, while his two daughters held a special place in his heart. His love extended to his three Springer Spaniels, each named Mandi, and to his passion for sports as a diehard Detroit Lions, Chicago Cubs, and Chicago Bears fan.

A lifelong lover of games, Herman enjoyed countless hours playing bridge and cribbage with family and friends. He was known for his kindness and patience, and his ability to make everyone around him feel valued. His positive outlook remained steadfast in all that he encountered throughout his life.

Herman is survived by his 5 children, 10 grandchildren, and 17 great grandchildren.

Though we mourn his loss, we take comfort in the many beautiful memories we shared with him. Herm’s legacy of kindness, strength, and love will live on forever in our hearts. Rest in peace, Dad—you will be deeply missed.
