Hildred Eloise Mousseau

Hildred Eloise (Holmes) Mousseau, 82 of Westmoreland, NH went home to God on August 26, 2025. Born October 2, 1942, in Dorchester, MA to John Holmes and Lois (Craine) Holmes-MacMillan. She is survived by her sister Marjorie Adele (Holmes) Hare of Tolland, CT, and predeceased by two sisters, Muriel Ellen Holmes and Maribelle Anna (Holmes) Hare.

She is survived by her former husband, Oliver Mousseau, and their two sons & daughters-in-law, John & Christine (Larsen) Mousseau of Keene, NH and Peter & Susan (DeLyser) Mousseau of Chesterfield, NH, and a daughter, Joanna Mousseau (Burge) Davis and her husband, Phil of Chesterfield, NH. She also leaves four grandchildren, Andrew Burge, Daniel Burge, Katrina Burge and Mikayla Mousseau. Mikayla’s son, Carter, Hildred’s only great-grandchild was her delight. Her eyes sparkled; her face lit up with joy whenever he was brought to visit her.

Hildred’s first love was for God. At a mere 10 years old, family tragedy resulted in the loss of both her father and her precious sister Muriel, as well as a lifetime of repercussions from her own injuries. Despite predictions that she would not survive, she adopted a can-do attitude that she carried throughout her lifetime and would claim, whenever asked, that it was God’s help that saw her through. Her purpose was simply to live for and honor Him. And she did.

Hildred loved to play the piano and was a bit of a bookworm too. She loved writing letters of encouragement to whoever she thought was in need. Even in her last days, when visited, many remarked that she emitted more encouragement to her visitors than they brought to offer her.

She will be greatly missed by her family and all who came to love her, but we are comforted to know she is Home with God at last. If she could speak to us now, most certainly her message would be “just keep looking up”.

A Memorial service will be held at the Chesterfield Town Hall in Chesterfield, NH on Saturday September 6th. Visiting hours will start at 10:30AM with a service at 11:30AM and a luncheon to follow. During the service there will be an opportunity to share thoughts or memories about Hildred if anyone would like to.

Burial to follow later, at Evergreen Cemetery, Houlton, ME.
