Irene Bertha Bey, a beloved wife, mother, grandmother, and soon-to-be great-grandmother, completed a remarkable journey of life just days shy of her 101st birthday. She passed away peacefully in her home with her family by her side holding her hand on December 13, 2024. Irene was born on December 17, 1923, in Munich, Germany, to Bertha and Henry Hacker.
Irene lived an extraordinary life filled with resilience, love, and countless accomplishments. Growing up in Germany during a time of great hardship, she faced challenges that most could only imagine. Yet, she persevered with grace and courage, creating a life rich with meaning and joy.
Irene was a woman of exceptional talent and intellect. A gifted mathematician, her brilliant mind inspired those around her. She was also a passionate musician, mastering the piano, violin, and accordion with a dedication that brought beauty and harmony to all who listened. Her intelligence and creativity shone through in everything she did, from solving complex problems to filling her home with music and warmth.
Irene had a profound passion for education. She founded a private German school, reflecting her dedication to preserving her cultural heritage and fostering learning in others. She led the school for seven years, shaping the lives of many and leaving a lasting impact on her community.
Her life took a joyous turn and opened a new chapter when she met and married her true love and beloved partner, Jerome Bey. Together, they built a life filled with love, family, adventure, and nearly 70 cherished years of marriage. Both described their time together as the best years of their lives—a testament to their love for each other and enduring bond and shared dreams.
After immigrating to the United States, Irene embraced her new home with open arms, bringing with her the rich cultural traditions of her homeland. In Manchester, she became a treasured member of the community, known for her warm heart, gracious spirit, and unwavering generosity. Irene had a gift for making every moment special, whether through her incredible cooking, vibrant garden, or deep appreciation for the arts.
Above all her accomplishments, the love of her family was the most important thing to Irene. Family was everything to her, and she devoted her life to ensuring their happiness and well-being. She was the heart and soul of her family, always offering her unconditional love, wisdom, and support.
Words cannot express how much we loved her and how deeply we will miss her.
Irene is survived by her husband, Jerome Bey; her daughter, Valerie Bey LeClerc; her grandchildren, Westley LeClerc and his wife Christine, and their soon-to-be-born son; and Olivia LeClerc. Her family will forever carry her memory in their hearts and honor her by living the values she embodied.
ARRANGEMENTS: At Irene’s request, there will be no calling hours. A private memorial service will be held at a later date. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made in her honor to VNA Manchester Hospice, Irene Bertha Bey.
Irene’s legacy lives on in the love she shared, the lives she touched, and the accomplishments she achieved. Her memory will forever be a source of comfort and inspiration to all who were fortunate enough to know her.
