Irene E. Riordan

Irene was born on April 23, 1935, to Thomas and Irene Coyne (Taylor). She graduated from Saint Joseph’s Academy in Roxbury, MA and later went on to earn an Associate’s degree in bookkeeping from Boston College.

After graduating she started her first job as a bookkeeper for Fiduciary Trust in Boston and would embark on a successful career of over 60 years in various industries.

Irene’s lifelong curiosity and knowledge on so many subjects along with her sense of humor will be sorely missed. She was an avid fan of her beloved Red Sox as well as the Portland Sea Dogs. Her passion for politics was prominently on display as she was a fixture at town meetings in Effingham. Irene was a generous supporter of the South Effingham Church and the Friends of the Effingham Library as well as Community Autism Resources of Taunton, MA.

A special thanks is to be paid to the Visiting Nurse Home Care and Hospice of Carroll County and Western Maine for their kind and loving care of Irene throughout her illness.

Irene is predeceased by her loving husband, John, and is survived by her 5 step-children: Maureen (VanTassel) of Houston, TX; John Jr of Brockton, MA; Bernadine of Richmond, CA; Michael of Myrtle Beach, SC; and Brendan of Topsfield, MA as well as grandchildren, John Joseph, Kevin, Paige, Molly and Grace.

A memorial service will be held on April 20, 2024, at the South Effingham Church at 10:00 AM. Reception to follow at Parsonfield Seminary, Parsonfield, ME.
