J. Stanton Hilliard

J. Stanton Hilliard of North Woodstock, New Hampshire died on March 13, 2000 at the Dartmouth-Hitchcock Medical Center in Lebanon after a long illness. He was born in East Kingston, New Hampshire on August 12, 1924, son of the late John and Hazel(Goldthwaite)Hilliard. Mr. Hilliard was a graduate of Sanborn Seminary in Kingston and later MacIntosh Business College in Haverhill, Massachusetts. He also served in the US Army Air Force from 1942-1946.During his lifetime he was active in many organizations serving as President of the Lincoln-Woodstock Chamber of Commerce, Lincoln-Woodstock Rotary Club and White Mountain Attractions. He also served as Treasurer of Ski-93, the Lost River Operating Committee and Lin-Wood School Consolidation Committee. In addition, Mr. Hilliard belonged to the New Hampshire Trustees of the Eastern States Exposition and was Manager of the Plymouth State Fair for ten years. Most recently, he served as a Director for the Lin-Wood Medical Center, where he had been a Board member for nineteen years and was proud to have been a Woodstock Selectman, a position he held for over twenty years. Mr. Hilliard was employed as Manager of Carroll Reed branch stores for ten years and was a State employee on the New Hampshire Turnpike Patrol for twelve years. For sixteen years he was owner of Hilliard's Home Made Candy Factory. His family, includes his wife Francene(Hawes)Hilliard of North Woodstock, NH, a brother Russell Hilliard of Minneapolis, MN, three daughters Kathleen Wasson of Haverhill, MA, Karen Wright of Union, OH, and Doreen Hilliard of Haverhill, MA, two sons John Hilliard, II of Center Conway, NH, and David Hilliard of Woodsville, NH. Other family includes, ten grandchildren and four great grandchildren and several other nieces, nephews, and cousins. A memorial service will be held for Mr. Hilliard, a lifelong Mason and Grange member at the Parker Lodge in North Woodstock, New Hampshire at 2:00 PM on Thursday, March 16, 2000. In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to the Norris Cotton Cancer Center in Lebanon, NH.
