Jacqeline M. Stewart

Jacqueline “Jackie/Gram”  M. Stewart, 100, of Manchester, died peacefully at home on the morning of October 14, 2022 surrounded by family and loved ones.

Jackie was born on January 20, 1922 in Saint-Christophe-d’Arthabaska, Quebec, Canada. At the age of twelve, her family relocated to Manchester, NH where she soon became a textile worker, and later, an electronic board manufacturer. After “retiring” at 75, she worked as a mail processor for Hitchcock Clinic, a job she adored until retiring for good at 90.  Additionally, she was a proud and active member of the American Legion Auxiliary at Jutras Post 43, and for over two decades, lovingly volunteered her time to usher at The Palace Theatre until she was 98.

Jackie was known as one-of-a-kind, sweet, and loving, hard-working, strong, fearless, family oriented, selfless, quick-witted, creative, adaptable to changing times, and passionate about life. She and her late husband, Thomas, loved to cook, entertain, and play music. Everyone was welcome in their home. She enjoyed visiting local farms (especially McQuesten’s), family gatherings, dancing, performance art, relaxing on her sun porch, gardening, Shirley Temple, crafting, sewing, and roller skating well into her 60s. She was an amazing seamstress, making costumes and clothing for her grandchildren.  When the need arose, she would use her “anything is possible” attitude to improvise, making something out of nothing. You could count on Jackie for anything, day or night, and she’d never admit to sleeping - just “resting her eyes.” She commanded respect from all and loved freely. When someone said it couldn't be done, she proved them wrong.  Her secret to a long and healthy life: “Don't stop moving!”

Jackie was, and always will be, a beacon of light, a role model, and a positive force in the world. In everyone she touched, Jackie lives, and they will talk about and remember her with great adoration and pride.

She was preceded by her husband, Thomas A. Stewart, and their sons, Thomas R. Stewart and John C. Stewart. She is survived by daughters Susan J. Heroux and Linda M. Ducharme, 10 grandchildren, 21 great- grandchildren, and 4 great-great-grandchildren.

Our family is grateful to Amedisys hospice care team for the loving care, compassion, and kindness they provided our mother and family.  The dedication to their work is outstanding.  Please help remember Jackie by donating to: Amedisys Foundation, 3854 American Way, Suite A Baton Rouge, LA 70816
