It is with great sadness that we announce the passing of James Louis Clauson on Tuesday, September 18, 2018, just a week after his 84th birthday. A native of Racine, Wisconsin, Jim joined the Air Force and served in both California and Korea. After an honorable discharge, he attended and graduated from the University of Illinois, Champaign Urbana, where he met his life-long love, Esther. Shortly after their Chicago marriage in 1962 they headed west to Redondo Beach, CA where Jim had a successful career as an aerospace engineer and Jim and Esther had two daughters, moving to Torrance. 12 years later, Jim and his young family followed the siren's song of beautiful Carlsbad, CA and settled there. Jim became a successful realtor and property developer, while also generously volunteering his time at his church and civic organizations.
Jim loved activities with his close-knit family and especially enjoyed adventurous vacations including 5-week camper excursions in Europe and another in Australia I New Zealand. He relished time with friends including raucous games of cribbage and UCLA football tailgate parties.
After Jim and Esther both retired, they followed their daughter Kathy and family to beautiful New Hampshire where they continued their travels and enjoyed the natural beauty of the area. Jim is remembered by all for his vivaciousness and humor. He was a fun-loving character truly loved by all who met him.
Jim will be terribly missed by his wife of 56 years, Esther (nee Eiskamp), his daughters Stephanie Hubsch (Andy), Kathy Wyle (Steve), his beloved grandchildren, Bradley, Riley, Justin and Dallas, his sisters Patricia Clancy (Jerry) and Elaine Rohn (Jack), and a large extended family. A memorial service is being planned for the autumn in California. In lieu of flowers, please donate to the American Heart Association.
