James D. Crockett, 73, of Manchester, NH passed away peacefully on June 18th with family by his side. Jim graduated from New England College and went on to become a Chief Probation/Parole officer for the State of NH. He took great pride in his long career with the Department of Corrections.
Jim was an avid skier and enjoyed spending time on the slopes of local mountains. In the summer months he would often hike with friends and loved being outside, especially when he took his beloved dog, Jax, for a walk around his neighborhood. Jim maintained several long time friendships and was a loyal and generous friend as well. He was always the first to step up if someone needed anything. His death is a huge loss to so many.
Although Jim grew up in Manchester, his favorite place on earth was at his family home in Stonington, Maine. As a young child he would spend summers there with his parents, Maurice and Lillian Crockett and his brother, Philip Crockett. The house was often filled with Aunts, Uncles, cousins and friends. He grew up with the local children and those friendships remain today. Family trips to Stonington were filled with lobster dinners, boat rides all around Penobscot Bay, picnics on nearby islands, walks into town for ice cream and late night cribbage games on the front porch. Jim loved boating and he was happiest behind the wheel of his boat with his family and friends on board. Both children have such fond memories of these trips, the beautiful old house, steamers and lobsters delivered by one of Jim’s many lobstermen friends, catching grasshoppers in yard, the Fourth of July parade in town and so much more.
Anyone who knew Jim knew just how much he adored his children. He would comment often about how proud he was of them and their accomplishments. More importantly, he was proud of the amazing adults they have become and how independent they are. Even though both live in other states, they spoke several times a week, often to give investment advice, and this brought Jim immense joy. He loved hearing about what they were doing and always wanted pictures of their dogs, Sawyer and DIngo. The tight bond they shared will never be broken, even in death.
Jim is survived by his daughter, Rachael Crockett of Alexandria, VA and his son, Jonathan Crockett of Charleston, SC. as well as his sweet dog, Jackson.
Jim faced his illness with strength and dignity and cherished his final months surrounded by his family and close friends. To honor him, a celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date at the home of Charlotte Crockett and Jim Catania. A notice of the date and time will be sent to family and friends.
In lieu of flowers, Jim would prefer donations to either your local animal shelter or to
Mary’s Dogs Rescue and Adoption, PO Box 241, Northwood, NH 03261.
