James (Jim) F. DeVoursney of North Berwick, Maine, formerly of Topsham, passed away peacefully on September 23, 2025 at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital with his loving wife of nearly 54 years, Marjorie (Marge), by his side. Jim will be remembered as a devoted, hardworking, and selfless husband, father, and grandfather, who was always ready to share a joke to bring laughter to others.
Born on November 22, 1942 in Jersey City, New Jersey to James and Helen (Borlinski) DeVoursney, Jim enlisted in the United States Navy at the age of 18. A proud veteran, Jim enjoyed traveling the world aboard the USS Franklin D. Roosevelt and USS John F. Kennedy, and it was while on deployment in the Mediterranean Sea in November 1970 that he met Marge, who was vacationing in Spain. They were married on October 2, 1971 in Bayonne, New Jersey.
Jim spent the latter part of his military career as a P-3 Orion Flight Engineer at Brunswick Naval Air Station, where he started a family with Marge, having two daughters, Laura and Kim. After 21 years of service, Jim retired from the Navy having attained the rank of Senior Chief Petty Officer.
Following his retirement from the U.S. Navy, Jim worked at Lockheed and later at Bath Iron Works. In 2006, Jim and Marge took to the roads of the United States, with Jim behind the wheel of his beloved Dodge Ram truck, hauling their 40-foot fifth wheel trailer. Over the course of 15 years, they traveled to all corners of the country, visiting close to 30 national parks, making countless memories, and developing lifelong friendships with their new RV family.
Of all the roles Jim filled during his life, none brought him more joy than being Grandpa to his five grandchildren. Jim loved babies, and each of his grandchildren spent innumerable hours being held and rocked by their adoring grandfather.
Jim is survived by his wife, Marge; his daughter Laura McCarthy and husband Dan; his daughter Kim Voce and husband Chris; and his grandchildren Abby, Sadie, Annie, Claire, and Jack. He also leaves behind his brother Robert DeVoursney; and his brother Paul DeVoursney and wife Donna.
The family wishes to express their gratitude to the staff at Wentworth-Douglass Hospital for the compassionate care Jim received and for their support during his final days.
Interment and a celebration of Jim’s life will be held at a later date. Memorial contributions can be made in Jim’s honor to Wentworth-Douglass Hospital at https://giving.wdhospital.org.
