James Cecil Grandfield

James C. Grandfield, 80, passed away peacefully on Monday, August 24, 2026, surrounded by his loving family at Concord Hospital in Concord, New Hampshire. He was born on March 9, 1946, in Lorimor, Iowa, the son of John and Helen Grandfield.

James was the former husband of Sylvia Grandfield (Coulombe).

James proudly served his country as a United States Marine and was a Vietnam veteran, where he received a Purple Heart. His service was a source of great pride throughout his life.

Over the years, James worked for Rumford Press and Concord Trailways before retiring from the State of New Hampshire, where he worked in the Department of Resources and Economic Development.

James enjoyed the simple things in life, especially spending time with his family and friends. He loved camping, listening to country music, and cheering on the New England Patriots and the Concord High School boys hockey team. He was particularly proud of his collection of coins and commemorative pieces, a hobby he enjoyed throughout the years. In his younger years, James also enjoyed square dancing, making memories and friendships along the way.

James was predeceased by his parents, grandparents, and his brother, Rodney Grandfield.

He is survived by his former wife, Sylvia Grandfield; his beloved daughters, Alison Casko and her husband, Chris, of Concord, NH, and Amy Germaine and her husband, Eric, of Carver, MA; and his beautiful granddaughter, Emily Casko, of Laconia, NH, whom he was always so proud of. He is also survived by his brothers, John Grandfield of Antioch, IL, Jack Grandfield of Dayton IA, and Daniel Grandfield of Lehigh, IA; his sister, Sheryl Ainsley of Fort Dodge, IA; and his many nieces, nephews, and extended family.

A private military service will be held at the New Hampshire State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen, NH.
