James R. “Jim” Mafera passed away peacefully with his loving wife by his side on February 11, 2025, after a courageous battle with cancer. Born November 22, 1947, oldest son of Richard and Lillian (Orfield) Mafera in Waltham, MA.
Jim graduated Manchester West Highschool in 1965. Jim proudly served in the U.S. Navy aboard the USS NANTAHALA from 1966-1970 achieving rank 2nd class, serving in the Mediterranean. He then went on to serve in the Army National Guard.
Jim played softball, loved his classic cars and took great pride in his meticulous landscaping and perennial gardens. Jim was proud to have made it through life with a flip phone.
He retired from the State of New Hampshire in 2009. In a career starting at Fish and Game, then concluded as a superintendent of Bridge Maintenance.
Jim was a loving husband, father, brother and friend to all that crossed paths with this wonderful man. He was predeceased by his parents and brothers Donnie and David. Jim leaves behind his loving wife Christine (Roy), son Mathew Mafera, daughter Jamie Siemer (Steven), sister Jeanne Loranger (Leo), brothers Rick Mafera (Dee) and Tom Mafera (Deb). Jim also leaves behind three stepchildren, Cicely Gedacht (Andrew), Olivia Walton (Ryan) and Cody Davenport (Kiley) as well as three step grandchildren, Anna, Ben and Pilot. Jim also leaves behind the mother of his children Mary Ann Mafera.
A gathering of remembrance will take place at The Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH on Monday, February 24th from 12PM to 1PM. A sit-down service will begin at 1PM. Friends and family are encouraged to tell a story or a memory they have shared with Jimmy.
Burial with military honors will take place on Monday, June 2nd at 10AM at the NH State Veterans Cemetery, 110 Daniel Webster Hwy, Boscawen NH.
