James Wilson Melanson

James Wilson Melanson, 61 died peacefully Saturday December 15th 2007 with his son and daughter by his side in Epsom, NH. Over the last few years he courageously battled a chronic illness. James was born in Manchester, NH on April 30 1946. His parents Wilson Melanson and Helen Melanson (maiden name Piaski) are deceased. James grew up in Weare, NH and graduated from Weare High School in 1964. He served as a Marine 1966-1968. He is a decorated Vietnam Veteran who fought in Khe Sanh with Bravo Company. His decorations include: National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal, Vietnam Campaign Medal, Presidential Unit Citation, Rifle Marksman Badge and two Purple Heart Medals. After his military service James went on to develop an occupation as a welder and resided in Concord, NH for most of his life. James, also known as Jim, enjoyed gatherings with friends and family. He had fun playing cards, cribbage, trips to the beach, outings at Bear Brook State Park, and fishing in all seasons. He will be remembered by his family and close friends, including: his son, Anthony J. Melanson of Essex VT, his daughter, Karina Mitchell of Berlin, NH, his sister Linda Bailey of Weare, NH, and Donna Melanson of Concord, NH, wife of 17 years and friend and advocate for 20 years. He will be missed by his 4 grandchildren who fondly called him "Papa Jim": Sophia, Marc, Rebecca and Nika. He is also survived by one niece Lisa and one nephew Ben who are his sister's children. Other nieces and nephews who will miss him include Steve, Michael, Chris, Greg, Susan and Jeffrey. Services inclusive of military honors will be held at the NH State Veterans Cemetery in Boscawen on Thursday January 10th promptly at 1pm.
