James G. Vakalis, 96, died peacefully October 8, 2015. Mr. Vakalis was born May 16, 1919 in Manchester, NH, husband to Christine (Fredette) Vakalis and the son of the late Angeliki (Metalios) Aliapoulios and George Vakalis.
Mr. Vakalis attended Manchester schools and worked for many years as an agricultural supply salesman for Allis-Chalmers Corporation. Mr. Vakalis also had a career in the catering business, notably, The Lakewood Theatre and Inn, Madison, Maine.
Mr. Vakalis was a loving husband and friend who enjoyed fishing, cooking, and building birdhouses, and took special pride in his yearly, Christmas decorating displays. His secret to longevity was to always keep busy.
Mr. Vakalis was predeceased by two brothers, Cosmos Aliapoulios and Steve Aliapoulios.
He is survived by his loving wife of 23 years, Christine (Fredette) Vakalis of Salem, NH; two sons and their wives, George and Joan Vakalis of Anchorage, AK and Anthony and Virginia Vakalis of Wells, ME; two brothers, Dr. M. Aliapoulios and his wife Joan of Westin, MA; Paul Aliapoulios and his wife Janet of Freeport, ME; a sister-in-law, Donna Aliapoulios of West Palm Beach, FL; four grandchildren, two great-grandchildren; many nieces and nephews; three step-children and their spouses, Donna (Castricone) and Stephen Clark of Stratham, NH; Lisa (Castricone) and Michael Sarcione of Methuen, MA and John Jr. and Sharon Castricone, of Pinellas Park, FL; five step-grandchildren and five step-great-grandchildren.
Our prayer for James is one of peace and for him to know how much he was loved and how much he will be missed.
A memorial service will be held on Thursday, October 15, 2015 for immediate family at Phaneuf Funeral Home and Crematorium, 243 Hanover Street, Manchester, NH.
