Janet Astrid Inkley

Longtime resident of West Dennis, MA and retired School Nurse, Janet Astrid Inkley (nee Nelson) passed away at the age of 83 on September 19, 2021, in her home. Janet was born on October 24, 1937, in Quincy, MA and grew up in Braintree. She graduated from Braintree High School in 1955 and from Quincy City Hospital School of Nursing in 1958. Also in 1958, Janet married Frederick J. Inkley, who predeceased her in 2007.
Janet worked in the Obstetrical Unit of Cape Cod Hospital until joining the Dennis-Yarmouth Regional School District as a School Nurse in 1971. For the first 10 years of her tenure, she worked at Ezra H. Baker School, before moving to Dennis-Yarmouth Regional High School for the next 22 years. Janet retired from the school district in 2003. An active member of the West Dennis Community Church and the Red Hat Society (The Smashing Cranberries), Janet enjoyed her family, especially her grandchildren and great-grandchildren, trips to NH and to visit other family, music (singing and playing the piano and organ), church, remodeling her home, handiwork, and her many friends.
Janet is survived by her three sons, Kevin J. Inkley and wife Michele of Warwick, RI, Bradford N. Inkley of West Yarmouth, MA, and Frederick C. Inkley and wife Tori of Cedar Grove, NJ; twelve grandchildren, Jacob (and wife Kendra), Joshua (and wife Lucia), Tyler, Jordan, Preston (and wife Shauna), Taylor, Alexandra, Joseph, Julia, Zachery, Kiersten (and husband Will), and Madison; six great-grandchildren, Logan, Hunter, Abigail, Elliot, Riley, and Leighton; and two nieces and three nephews. Janet was predeceased by her sisters, the late Judith Zanca of Brockton, MA and the late Joan Dewing of Plymouth, MA.
A memorial for Janet Astrid Inkley will be held at West Dennis Community Church on Saturday, October 23, 2021, at 11:00AM, followed by a reception in the church’s Fellowship Hall.
