Jayne Morong:

It is with heavy hearts and profound love that our family announces the passing of our beloved mother and grandmother, Jayne Morong, 72, who passed away peacefully on her favorite day of the year, July 4, 2026.

Born on October 17, 1953, Jayne was the cherished daughter of Donald Nelson and Geraldine Nelson. Born and raised in Gloucester, Massachusetts, she spent 69 vibrant years of her life in her hometown. Later in life, she moved to New Hampshire to live with her son James, daughter-in-law Rifat, her grandkids Kyla and Kaden, and two beloved German Shepherds, Dia and Gia, who brought her immense joy and companionship in her final years.

Those who knew Jayne will remember her bright spirit and her legendary love for sweets. Whether sharing a treat or enjoying her favorite desserts, she always knew how to find the sweet side of life. She also had a passion for the 4th of July, a holiday she deeply loved and celebrated with joy throughout her life. Above all, Jayne’s greatest joy was her family. She was a fiercely proud and devoted grandmother who showered her grandchildren with endless affection, patience, and love. Her legacy lives on in the beautiful, vibrant memories they all share.

She was preceded in death by her beloved parents, Donald and Geraldine Nelson; her sisters, Vera and Dawn; her brother, Bruce; and her late husband, Robert Morong, who have welcomed her home with open arms.

She leaves behind a family who will miss her dearly, including her sons, John Kirton and James Kirton; her beloved daughters-in-laws, Nerissa Kirton and Rifat Kirton; her adored grandchildren, James Kirton Jr., Jacob Kirton, Kyla Kirton, Kaden Kirton, and Hunter Kirton; and her loving surviving sister, Becky Thompson, as well as all her nieces and nephews. She will also be deeply missed by a wide circle of friends, neighbors, and the Gloucester community where she spent most of her life. We take comfort in knowing that every future Independence Day, the fireworks in the sky will serve as a beautiful celebration of her vibrant life and memory.

Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Manchester. To view Jayne’s Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
