Memorial Mass
Jean Betty Magee, 92, passed away peacefully, on March 16, 2026, while under home and hospice care for dementia. Born on May 19, 1933, in Bridgeport, CT., to Howard and Rhoda Waterman, Jean later moved with her parents to East Longmeadow, MA., attended Classical High School in Springfield, met the love of her life, Henry C. Magee, and married in 1951. Together, Jean and Henry embarked upon an adventure to France, living in a 500- year-old farmhouse off base, while Henry was stationed in the U.S. Air Force. After four years of military service, Jean and Henry arrived home via a troop transport ship from England to New York City, returning with their first child born overseas.
Settling in Springfield, MA., and later moving to East Longmeadow, MA., Jean and Henry welcomed their second child. The Magee family moved to Hampden, MA., then Fairfield, CT, and eventually Bedford, NH, that they called home for over 30 years.
Jean worked at Mass Mutual Insurance, Forbes and Wallace Department Store, in Springfield demonstrating bow makers (large crowds of store patrons often surrounding her during demonstrations), Town of Hampden, MA. administration, an accounting firm in Longmeadow, MA., secretary at WGIR Radio Station in Manchester, NH, and obtained her Paralegal Certification, working for a law firm in Manchester, NH. She also worked as a retail manager at several retail locations owned by her son.
Jean is a former member of St. Matthew’s Episcopal Church in Goffstown, NH, and a former volunteer poll worker for the town of Bedford, NH.
IN HER LIFE: Surviving members of the family include: a son James H. Magee and partner, Annette Snyder, of Bow, NH, daughter Wendy Deabill of New Boston, NH, sister, Susan Heinecke of Concord, NH, brother John Waterman and wife Sarah of Simsbury, CT, grandson Kenneth Lavoie and wife Marissa, of Amherst, NH, granddaughter Kathleen Romero and husband Joel of Manchester, NH, step-grandchildren, Daniel and wife Jen Snyder of Manchester, NH, Shane and wife Janice Snyder of Bristol, NH, and Charlene Roy of Alexandria, NH, Julia Daly of Australia, David Daly of Massachusetts, great grandchildren, Jacob and Abigail Lavoie, Gabriel Romero, and great step-grandchildren Isabella Snyder, Elodie Roy, and Lucy Snyder. Last, Best Friend Forever Phyllis Wallace (over 75 years of friendship) of New Jersey, and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
Preceded in death by her beloved husband Henry Magee, sister Patty Waterman, brother-in-law David Heinecke, son-in-law Dennis Daly, and great step-grandchild Hazel Roy.
A Memorial Mass and Remembrance will be celebrated at St. Matthew’s Church, 5 North Mast Street, Goffstown, NH, at 2:00 PM on Saturday, May, 9, 2026.
In lieu of flowers, donations in memory of Jean Magee, may be tendered to Brookhaven, Hospice of Bedford, NH, via Brookhaven Hospice, 5 Mt.
