Jean McCall aged 90, passed away on June 20th, 2026. Born in Beverly, Massachusetts, in 1935, Jean grew up and completed her education at Beverly High School before entering the workforce. Throughout her life, she embraced a variety of careers—from waitressing and electronic assembly to working with the American Red Cross. Along every path she took, she gained a wealth of knowledge and built countless lifelong friendships.

Jean shared 64 years of marriage with her beloved husband, the late Joseph J. McCall Jr. In their early years together, the couple moved from New York to Massachusetts and Nantucket Island, before finally settling in Bedford, New Hampshire. Residents of Bedford for over 55 years, they built a beautiful home, raised their family, and established deep roots in the community, notably through their long-time association with Saint Elizabeth Seton Church.

Family and friendship were the cornerstones of Jean’s life. Many of her happiest weekends were spent at Northwood Lake with her parents, her children, her sister Susan, and her brother-in-law Brooks Nichols (both deceased), where they filled the days playing games, watching movies, and sharing good food and drink. Jean also loved getting away for golf weekends with longtime friends. A socializing force in her neighborhood, she was famous for late nights spent in her basement—listening to music, dancing, and enjoying a glass of red wine. Later in life, she delighted in keeping up that spirited energy with her grandchildren, happily hosting "cocktail hours" whenever they came to visit.

She leaves behind a devoted family who will miss her dearly: her son Mark McCall and his partner Sue Brown Carlberg; her son James McCall and his wife Gisele; and her daughter Susan McCall. She was the cherished grandmother of Meagan McCall, Ryan McCall, and Nolan McCall and his spouse Ryan Viele. She also leaves behind the absolute love of her life, her great-granddaughter, Rosalie McCall Feighery.

A special thank you to the home care team for providing Jean with great comfort and support for the past several months.

A service will be held on Wednesday, July 1st, 2026, at the Cremation Society of NH, 243 Hanover St. Manchester, NH from 10:00am to 12:00pm, followed by a brief burial at the Bedford Center Cemetery, and a gathering at the Puritan Back Room afterwards.
