Jeanne Barstow Eaton passed away on 5 February 2018 at the Maplewood Nursing Home. She was born in Boston, MA, on 19 July 1926, and raised by her parents, Francis V and Ann Barstow in Chestnut Hill, on the Brookline side. She attended Beaver Country Day School and graduated from Wellesley College with a degree in English Composition. She took the Publishing Procedures Course at Radcliffe College and attended Secretarial School before working for L.C. Page Publishing Co. of Boston. She advanced her career by going to Houghton Mifflin Publishing.
While on family vacation in Maine, Jeanne was introduced to Harry Eaton, Jr, a school teacher and WWII Navy veteran. They wed in 1955, and resided in Chestnut Hill. They eventually moved to Weston, MA, and later, Peterborough, NH, with their three children. Jeanne moved to Keene in 2014 and resided at The Woodward.
Jeanne loved animals. Over the course of her life she had many dogs, cats, turtles, parakeets, parrots, loved birds, hamsters, guinea pigs, and goldfish. She and Harry took in stray animals, and had once nursed an abandoned baby squirrel to adulthood. Not surprisingly she had a NH vanity plate ZOOKPR, and made many friends while shopping for pet food. Two of her life-long passions were horseback riding and daschunds. She was also an avid reader.
Her beloved husband, Harry, passed away in 1993. She is survived by Ann Eaton of Keene, Holly Caron of Winchester, and Nicholas Eaton of Keene. Jeanne has five grandchildren.
