Jeffrey A.
Emery
Oct 23, 1967 — Sep 6, 2026
Winchester, NH
Jeffrey Allen Emery, 58, of Winchester, NH, passed away on September 6, 2026, after a long and courageous battle with brain cancer. Jeff was known for, and will always be remembered for, his carefree spirit, adventurous nature, kind heart, and willingness to help others.
Jeff was born on October 23, 1967, and grew up in Dummerston, VT. He attended Dummerston School and graduated from Brattleboro Union High School in 1985. He furthered his education at Castleton State College.
His professional life began in his youth at H & M Orchards. He later spent 30 years working for C&S Wholesale Grocers and 15 years at Walmart in Hinsdale. Throughout his career, Jeff was respected and loved by many of his colleagues.
Jeff is survived by his wife, Selena (Petrovsky) Emery. They were married in a fairy-tale wedding on a private beach in Jamaica, where their adventures together began. He is also survived by his son, Matthew Emery of Westminster, VT; his daughter, Paula (Emery) McPhee, her husband Chris, and their children Evelyn and Elias of Manchester, NH; and his stepdaughter, Brittany Young, her partner William Bauer, and their children Ryker and Quentin of Hinsdale, NH.
Jeff is also survived by his parents, Kenneth and Phyllis (Macinnes) Emery of Dummerston, VT; his sister, Jeannette (Emery) Mills; her husband, Rick; and their children, Parker and Sadie. He was predeceased by his maternal and paternal grandparents. Jeff was very proud of his Scottish heritage.
Jeff loved helping others, whether it was simply helping a friend in need or working alongside Ryker and Quentin on projects to serve their community. Together, they filled boxes for humane societies, stuffed stockings for horse rescues, and prepared cards for first responders and nursing home residents. He was a faithful member of Grace Christian Fellowship Church in Winchester and deeply loved his church family.
Over the years, Jeff also loved the company of many pets—including some rather unique ones. His family included a pot-bellied pig, ferrets, sugar gliders, hedgehogs, and many others. At one point, there were an impressive 92 paws in the house. His son, Matthew, fondly remembers their Boy Scout activities together, including pinewood derbies and regattas. His daughter, Paula, treasures memories of father-daughter dances. Both Matthew and Paula share many memories of family vacations, field trips, and adventures with their dad. Jeff's zest for life was evident in his many hobbies and interests. He loved science fiction, particularly Star Wars and The Avengers. He had an incredible ability to recall scenes, actors, dates, and details from his favorite movies and television shows.
He was also an avid reader who enjoyed many authors, including Stephen King and J.R.R. Tolkien. Jeff loved the outdoors and was always ready for an adventure. He enjoyed snowmobiling and scuba diving, and he loved spending time on his boat, whether he was fishing or simply relaxing with friends. He also enjoyed ziplining and parasailing and often proudly shared the story of how he conquered the longest zipline through the jungles of Haiti and out over the open ocean.
Although Jeff was never particularly known as a “bicyclist,” one day in high school he simply jumped on his bike and made the approximately 130-mile trip from home to visit his uncle in Lyndonville. Eventually, bicycles were upgraded to motorcycles, and Jeff often said that “one wasn't enough.”
When Jeff was diagnosed with glioblastoma, he faced the disease with courage and continued fighting for his life. Throughout that journey, he often listened to one of his favorite singers, Billy Joel, whose song reminds us that “only the good die young.”
Jeff's life was filled with adventure, laughter, family, faith, animals, friendship, and a willingness to help wherever he could. His stories, and there are many, will continue to be told by the people fortunate enough to have shared in his adventures.
Services will be held on September 25 at 11:00 a.m. at Grace Christian Fellowship Church, 81 Ashuelot Street, Winchester, NH, followed by a potluck gathering. If you are able, please bring a dish and, most importantly, memories of Jeff to share.
An informal gathering celebrating Jeff's life, and his love of dessert, will also be held on October 24 from 12:00 to 3:00 p.m. at Dummerston Congregational Church, 1535 Middle Road, Dummerston, VT.
Assisting the family with arrangements is the Cremation Society of NH, Brattleboro. To view Jeff’s Online Tribute, send condolences to the family, or for more information, visit www.csnh.com.
