Joan Blaney

October 5, 1933 — September 9, 2017

Joan Blaney

Joan's journey began in Kilmarnock Scotland, where her grandmother Maryanne Boyle came to America. She married, started her own family and had a daughter named Anne. Anne grew up, married, had her own family, and on October 5, 1933 had a daughter named Joan. She grew up in Manistee, Michigan, on Lake Michigan. After high school she came east to attend Fisher Jr. College in Boston, where she studied to be a legal secretary. While in Boston she met her soulmate, James Blaney of Bethlehem, NH, where he too was attending school. After graduation, they married and started their own family. The family lived in Shelton, CT, where Joan was employed at Southern Connecticut State College in New Haven. The family moved to Lancaster, NH in the summer of 1971. While in Lancaster, she was employed at George Steven Insurance, and later became proprietor at the Village Stationer. After the death of her husband in 1989 she moved to NH with her daughter Kathleen, and eventually they settled in Manchester, NH. Joan thoroughly enjoyed her retirement by traveling, quilting, and she had a voracious appetite for reading (she was probably one of Barnes & Noble's best customers). She was diagnosed and survived breast cancer, only to be diagnosed with Alzheimer's and Dementia. Joan's journey ended on September 9, 2017.
Joan is survived by her daughter, Kathleen Marie of Manchester, her sister-in-law's, Sue McLauchlan of Ada Michigan, and Marge Blevins of Mendon, MA and her children James Blevins, April Carozza, Carrie Donahue, and Lynn Housekeeper . She is also survived by a daughter Patricia, and son James.
She is pre-deceased by her husband James, her infant son Stephen Paul, daughter Elizabeth Anne and her brother Ervin McLauchlan.
The family would like to thank Dr. Ajay Koshy and the staff of Amoskeag Primary Care. The family would also like to express their appreciation to the dedicated staff at Bel Air Nursing Home in Goffstown for the phenomenal care she was given while as a resident. She was treated with the utmost care and respect, who ultimately became her second family.
As per Joan's wishes, there are no calling hours or service. Burial will be at a later date in the fall at the Calvary cemetery in Lancaster, NH.
In lieu of flowers, donations may be made to Friends of Manchester Animal Shelter, 490 Dunbarton Rd., Manchester, NH.
